Mindfulness:

brain scan

It can change your brain.
It can change your life.
And maybe – just maybe – it can make the world a better place in which to live.

But what, exactly is mindfulness? Let me give a brief experiential example.

Did you notice the shift of feelings? The different thoughts? Were you calm and observant of your reactions, as they occurred in the present moment? If so you were practicing mindfulness. And, if we scanned your brain, after only a few weeks of practice, we would see its structure and functioning change in life enhancing ways.

Mindfulness improves your brain. If you consciously breathe, relax, or even yawn, neurological stress and anxiety fades away. If you watch your thought and feelings, without judgment, emotional conflicts subside.

Memory, cognition, and concentration improve. Self esteem improves. Test scores improve. Blood pressure goes down. And if you mindfully eat, you wll gain more control over food cravings and your weight.

Each year, several hundred new studies are published showing the benefits of mindfulness, meditation, positive thinking, and contemplative prayer. And here, at the Mindful Living Foundation, we will share with you the finest research available: fascinating videos, inspiring advice, and useful strategies you can immediately apply to your personal and professional life.

We are a grassroots organization of teachers, students, artists, academics, and philanthropic entrepreneurs: an evolving experiment in compassion. And we are here to share our journey with you as we all try to bring a little more peace into this world. Enjoy!
